  1. World Athletics Day, established by the International Amateur Athletic Federation, is annually celebrated on 7 May to promote sports and exercise as a means of preventing diseases and maintaining good health. The aim of this day is to raise awareness about the benefits of physical activity and encourage young and school children to take up athletics. The theme of World Athletics Day 2023 is “Athletics for All – A New Beginning”. 
  2. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) annually celebrated its Raising Day on 7 May to mark the establishment of BRO on 7 May, 1960. 7 May, 2023 marks the 64th Raising Day of BRO. 
  3. Former England cricketer and a well-known commentator, Mark Nicholas has been elected as the next President of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) on 3 May, 2023. 
  4. Olympic javelin throw gold medalist Neeraj Chopra has secured victory with 88.67m throw at Doha Diamond League 2023. 
  5. Michael Douglas will be honored with an honorary Palme d’Or for his outstanding career and contributions to cinema at the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
  6. The construction of India’s first International Multimodal Logistics Park in Jogighopa, Assam, is well underway, and the jetty is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
  7. Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shantanu Thakur flagged off MV-ITT LION (V-273) from Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata as the inaugural shipment to operationalize the Sittwe Port in Rakhine State of Myanmar. 
  8. Indian sailor Commander Abhilash Tomy (retd.) has become the first Indian and Asian to finish the Golden Globe Race (GGR), a solo non-stop yacht race around the world. He came in 2nd taking 236 days 14 hrs and 46 mins to complete the feat which started on 4 September, 2022.   
  9. Visa, the global card transaction company, has launched a new feature in India that allows users to make online payments without a CVV number. 
  10. The Indian Archery men and women teams won 14 medals including seven gold, five silver and two bronze medals at the Asia Cup World Ranking Tournament, Stage II. 
  11. Rashki, an India-based fashion brand, has launched India’s first-ever range of handbags made from banana leather, a sustainable alternative to animal leather, made from banana crop waste. 
  12. Geoffrey Emmanuel, the son of seven-time National Champion Emmanuel Jebaraj, will become the first Indian to participate in the FIM World JuniorGP World Championship. He will race for Cuna De Campeones in his maiden FIM JuniorGP season. 
  13. Archaeological Survey of India unearthed a 1,500-year-old rock painting and numerous 1,800-2,000-year-old man-made waterbodies at Bandhavgarh National Park, Madhya Pradesh. 
  14. On 6 May, 2023 the Indian Navy decommissioned Indian Naval Ship (INS) Magar, the oldest Landing Ship Tank (Large) after 36 years of service at the Naval base in Kochi, Kerala. 
  15. Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistan cricket team, has set a new record by becoming the fastest player to score 5000 runs in One Day International (ODI) cricket. 
  16. Himachal Pradesh Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu, has approved the provision of Rs. 1500 per month as Indira Gandhi Mahila Samman Nidhi to all eligible women of above 18 yrs in the Spiti Valley.
